Worldwide three million children under the age of five years old will die next year from infectious diseases. It is stated in the report of the world Council on health (The Global Hygiene Council). In it, as the newspaper writes EurekAlert! Thursday, 3 November, also proposes measures to reduce mortality.
The experts came to the conclusion that a million children die from pneumonia each year, and 700 thousand from diarrhoea. While more than half of the families in the world do not observe hygienic rules that are not recommended for disinfection in the home during the seasons of colds and flu. In addition, private homes are the source of 31 percent of infections associated with microbes in the gastrointestinal tract.
According to experts, the lack of hygiene is the main cause of infant mortality from infections. At the same time, hand washing with soap reduces the number of deaths from diarrhea by 50 percent. The authors of the report, which was published on 28 October, saying that compliance with the clean house can significantly reduce the incidence of diarrhea, gastroenteritis, colds and flu. Experts also suggest as little as possible to assign children antibiotics because of the risk of emergence of drug-resistant (able to survive the effects of antibiotics) germs.
The world Council of hygiene was established in 1972 for the dissemination of health information and promotion programs to improve health systems. It consists of several hundred public organizations from all over the world.
