NATO is increasing its offensive potential on the borders of Russia and Belarus, so Moscow is forced to take defensive measures. On Wednesday, 2 November, said defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, reports "Interfax".
"On the Western borders of the Union state of the US and other NATO members actively expanding its offensive capabilities, opening new bases and developing military infrastructure. Stop trying to impose their will on other countries through economic and political dictatorship and military force. Is an open information war," — said Shoigu.
In his view, this undermines strategic stability and forcing Russia to take retaliatory measures of a defensive character.
Relations between Russia and the West in the military-political sphere deteriorated since the late 1990-ies. The main unresolved issues in bilateral relations was the NATO expansion to the East, as well as deployment in Eastern Europe of information and impact of U.S. global missile defense system. After the secession of Crimea in 2014 and the outbreak of civil war in the Donbass NATO has announced a strengthening of the Eastern European plot, which caused sharply negative reaction in Moscow.
