• Poroshenko an emergency on Board the flagship of the Ukrainian Navy again promised NATO membership

  • The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko at an emergency Board of the flagship of the Ukrainian Navy frigate "Hetman Sahaidachny" — said that Kiev intends to return to the agenda the issue of joining NATO. He said this in Odesa during the ceremony of opening the Ukrainian-American military exercises Sea Breeze, reports the portal "Country".

    "Our intention to return on the agenda the issue of the action plan on membership in NATO and the approach of the military-industrial sector to the standards of the Alliance, confirmed by a public opinion poll strong support of such a strategy — all this indicates that the chosen course is correct and uncontested," — said Poroshenko.

    6 July the Ukrainian leader signed the law governing the Republic's accession to NATO is one of the key factors of the state policy of the country. "There is an active work in conducting reforms in the security and defence sector that will allow us to achieve the criteria for membership," said Poroshenko.

    In January, the newspaper "Izvestia" citing a military source in Brussels reported, what NATO countries do not see the reason for admission of Ukraine into the Alliance. The interviewer noted that the Alliance are trying the subject of Ukraine once again not to raise, and yet refused to promote this idea because of "lack of consensus".

    "Hetman Sahaidachny" is the flagship of the naval forces of Ukraine. The frigate was launched in March 1992. In June Vice-Admiral of naval forces of Ukraine Sergey Gayduk said, that the vessel in 2018, the deadline of operation. According to him, the main problem is that diesel generators were manufactured in Russia and Ukrainian enterprises are unable to conduct their scheduled maintenance properly.
