• Underwater robot for debugging robots tested in Arctic ocean

  • During the Arctic expedition on the ship "Akademik M. A. Lavrentyev" successfully tested a Russian underwater robot "Platform," said TASS the Deputy Director of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) Dmitry Sonkin.

    "Within the expedition we tested real subsystems, sensors, and participated in the main testing purpose is the study of the degradation of submarine permafrost," said he. The ship went from Vladivostok to the Arctic ocean in the area of the East Siberian sea and back. After testing in field conditions it was decided to modernize this automated complex for obtaining more information about the underwater environment.

    The robot developed by order of the TPU Institute of marine technology problems far Eastern branch Russian Academy of Sciences to test and debug other underwater robots and systems. In the Polytechnic Institute to create depth sensors and temperature, a vision system and a backup system.

    Earlier, on 17 October, it was reported that Russia has developed an underwater robot to monitor the borders and coastal areas. This complex can operate autonomously for several days at a distance of over 100 kilometers from the coast.
