• The head of "Naftogaz" told about the shock decision of the European Commission on the OPAL

  • "Naftogaz of Ukraine" was shocked by the decision of the European Commission to extend Gazprom's access to OPAL gas pipeline. This was stated in interview Bloomberg the Chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian company Andrey Kobelev.

"This was a shock for us", — quotes the words Koroleva TASS. The decision of the European Commission, according to his confession, will cause "significant damage" financial situation not only Naftogaz, but the whole Ukraine. Currently, as noted KOBOLEV "Naftogaz" is considering options for a legal challenge to this step.

31 October it became known that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine plans to adopt a resolution calling on the EU to abandon the construction of the pipeline "Nord stream-2" and to reduce purchases of Russian gas by half.

28 October the European Commission reported, that brought the OPAL gas pipeline from the rules of the Third energy package, thus confirming the expansion of access to it "Gazprom". The pipeline connects Nord stream to the West European transport systems, bypassing transit countries.

The shareholders agreement for the project "Nord stream-2", implying the extension of "Northern stream" (the construction of the third and fourth strings), was signed in early September of last year in the Eastern economic forum in Vladivostok. The new consortium includes Gazprom, E. ON, Shell, BASF/Wintershall, OMV and Engie. Two new lines of total annual capacity of 55 billion cubic meters, and existing, will pass from the Russian coast under the Baltic sea to Germany. The pipeline is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2019.

Against the construction of "Nord stream-2" are the Baltic States, Poland and Ukraine. Project criticize in the United States.
