• French designers will revive the "Russian leather" with the smell of smoke and incense

  • The designers at French brand Moynat, which is included in group LVMH Group will use the new collection "Russian leather". It is reported ProFashion.

This material was produced during the Russian Empire and was distinguished by the strength and peculiar smell of smoke, myrrh and incense.

"A special tanning process was a jealously guarded secret. This material is widely used in Russia in the production of all military equipment and goods for travel, in Western Europe it became popular in the 18th and 19th centuries," — said the representative of the brand and added that at the beginning of the XX century, "Russian leather" has disappeared from the market because in the country there was a revolution.

However, the French tanners were able to revive the technology. It will be used in creating things from the new collection, which is scheduled to release in 2017.
