Diaries of poetess Anna Akhmatova sold over seven million rubles at the auction in St. Petersburg, reports "Interfax".
As reported by news Agency General Director of the auction house "Russian enamel" Sergei Burmistrov, the starting price of the diaries of the poet was 800 thousand rubles. The final cost of the lot subject to the Commission payments amounted to 7 million 700 thousand rubles.
According to Burmistrova, diary Akhmatova was purchased for a private collection.
The notebook of the poet represents cultural and historical value. It contains her notes about the character and literary gift of Osip Mandelstam, the protest of Olga Bergholz against the decision of 1946, the closure of the magazines "Zvezda" and "Leningrad", the suicide of Alexander Fadeev and much more.
The auction was also sold the first book of Vladimir Nabokov "Poems" for 650 thousand rubles and the volume of poems by Mikhail Kuzmin book signing for 2 million 900 thousand rubles.
Anna Akhmatova ― Russian poet, translator and literary critic, one of the most significant figures of Russian literature of XX century. In 1965, it was nominated for the Nobel prize for literature.
