Vice President Joe Biden condemned the ratification of the Russian-Abkhaz agreement on the creation of the United group of troops. This was reported on White house on the results of Biden's conversation with Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili.
Biden reiterated U.S. support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders.
Vice-President of the United States Kvirikashvili congratulated with the victory of the party "Georgian dream" at parliamentary elections and urged him to use their results to continue in the country's democratic and economic reforms, which will contribute to further integration of Georgia into Euro-Atlantic institutions.
Wednesday, 2 November, the state Duma ratified the agreement between Russia and Abkhazia on a United group of troops. The agreement was signed in Moscow on 21 November 2015.
The composition of the group included a joint Russian military base on Abkhaz territory, as well as two mechanized battalions, one artillery and aviation groups and special forces.
In the event of a threat of aggression and wartime, the group goes to the subordination of the commander of assigned to the Ministry of defence. The decision to deploy troops was adopted by the military departments of the two countries.
In January 2015, the state Duma ratified the Treaty with Abkhazia on Alliance and strategic partnership. It provides for joint action for the protection of the Georgian-Abkhaz border and Maritime areas subject to the sovereignty of Abkhazia.
